Give Those Tired Eyes a Lift: Blepharoplasty

As the saying goes, the eyes are the windows of the soul. The eyes, however, are sensitive to time, stress and gravity, which is why eye lifts or blepharoplasty has become so popular these days. The surgery improves the appearance of both upper and lower eyelids. The result is a more youthful, alert look.

The procedure encompasses the removal of excess skin. Unlike other surgeries, blepharoplasty is often requested by patients in their twenties on up. People who have drooping or somewhat sagging, puppy dog eyes get the procedure to make their eyes more almond shaped. Many Asians get the procedure to make their eyes appear wider and larger. Blepharoplasty will remove bags and puffiness under the eye, making you look more refreshed and awake. It does not however, alter dark circles or fine lines around the eye.
Before getting the surgery, physical fitness must be assessed. Those with medical conditions especially circulatory problems and ophthalmological conditions must consult their personal specialists in order to determine if they can go through with the procedure. Some cosmetic surgeons may also recommend other similar procedures such as a brow lift to improve the effect.

The surgery is performed with either local anaesthesia or twilight anesthesia (sedation). Your doctor will make a recommendation as to which is best for you. The incision is made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid so that the scar remains inconspicuous. For corrections done to the lower lid, the incision is made just below the lash line. Excess skin is removed from there. The incisions are closed with either surgical tape, skin adhesives or sutures.
Bruising will be noticeable for about ten days, although some swelling may last longer.

The procedure typically costs around $2000; a variety of financing options are available, depending on your clinic’s policies.
