The Brow Lift
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift is a surgical procedure which restores a youthful appearance to the brow, removing deep creases, wrinkles and furrows.
The forehead is often the first facial feature to prominently display the signs of aging. The elements—wind, sun, etc.—along with stress, gravity and the inevitable passage of time mark the brow with wrinkles and sagging. Even younger people, in their thirties, can see the marks of time in their forehead. Unsurprisingly, brow lifts have become increasingly popular.
The procedure is relatively simple. Loose skin is tightened, removing wrinkles and droop. Surgeons may also remove part of the muscle which causes vertical frown lines. The result is a smoother, younger looking brow. You can mimic the look of a brow lift by simply placing your hands above your brow and pulling the skin taut. Typically, brow lifts are performed on patients aged 40 and older.
The procedure involves making an incision at the crown of head, behind the hairline starting from the ears and moving up; another option is to make the incision right at the hairline, this may result in a more visible scar, however. Endoscopic surgery, a third option, involves several small incisions being made just behind the hairline. Titanium anchors are placed at various intervals to secure loose tissue. Although it does take longer, endoscopic surgery is less invasive, thus recovery time is shortened and the tendency to scar is reduced.
After surgery, the brow area will be swollen and bruised. Sometimes the cheek and eye area are also subject to swelling and bruising. This usually lasts for ten days. Doctors may advise patients to keep their head elevated and use cold compresses to reduce the swelling. Sutures are removed within a week to ten days. Recovery shouldn’t take more than two weeks in total.
